南海のゾルゲル島を舞台にゴジラの息子ミニラが初登場し、怪獣カマキラスやクモンガと対決する。この作品から特技監督が名匠・円谷英二から弟子の有島貞昌にバトン・タッチされた。ゴジラとミニラの親子の愛情がしっかり描き込まれている。
